Rode to Melaka @4AM For Laksa

(Disclaimer: This is a #throwback trip we had on the 14th December 2024).

As the headline suggests, my partner and I embarked on a chilly early morning ride around 4:30 AM to Melaka. With the wind in our hair, we sped down the road by bike at an exhilarating 150 km/h, arriving in Melaka by 7:30 AM. This was quite the surprise, as we had originally planned for a 4-hour and 10-minute journey according to the GPS—excluding rest stops and refuelling! (Attached is the route we had taken by bike!). This was an impromptu trip as my partner was craving for some famous laksa that was viral on TikTok.

Upon reaching, we checked into our guesthouse to take a power nap before starting the day. This place is super convenient, as they encourage check-in and provide help from the admins 24-7.

Afterwards, we began the journey to hunt down this amazing laksa store along the streets. We had gotten the Baba Laksa and Nyonya Laksa (one with just the assam laksa while the other is a mix of assam and coconut gravy). I must say both laksa is top of the notch and may be the best laksa. Apart from the laksa, their chendols is also a crowd pleaser. We ordered the traditional OG and one with mango slices. My favourite would be the original as the coconut milk mixed with the brown sugar just sends you to a while new world!!! The queue does get overwhelming and most likely you will be sharing a table with others. Overall, this laksa and chendol deserves a 9/10.

What’s Melaka without visiting the Mamee Factory! So that’s the next item on the agenda. We customised our own Mamee Instant Noodles (from designing the packaging to picking out the ingredients). For just 15 ringgit/pax, you’re given an empty Mamee cup to decorate before moving to the next zone where the fun ingredients are. (p/s we might have spent over 3 hours in here ;-;).

To end of the night and trip before heading back Singapore, we just walked around the Night Market in search of food/snacks to bring back. We stumbled across a pani puri stall and decided to get a set each after trying a sample. (p/s get the yoghurt one!) There’s no accurate address but the stall has a standee that says ‘TJ Special Delicious Pani Puri’!.

Few hours after, we are on our way back to Singapore where I had the munchies and we got to stop for some Nasi Lemak. This stall is super near the customs and a must-visit for anyone craving a good ol Nasi Lemak. We had ordered the Nasi Lemak Royale (2 sets of Nasi Lemak, comes with prawns, squid and 1/4 chicken. This brings us to a total damage of 50 ringgit!

Thus, that’s a wrap for our super impromtu trip to Melaka in search for famous TikTok Laksa and chendol!
